The situation is similar to the Stalinist era. Back then, decisions were made in five minutes without a trial or a court, and people were executed, Menua Soghomonyan, a member of HayaQve, told reporters outside the courthouse where the issue of the arrest of the initiative’s founder, Avetik Chalabyan, is being examined.

“Today, they do not do all that, but they use the guise of the law to maintain their dictatorship,” Soghomonyan said.

According to him, the authorities are using the law enforcement system of the Republic of Armenia for political purposes.

“Unfortunately, the investigative bodies, setting aside their professional responsibilities, are guided by political instructions and orders,” Soghomonyan stated.

Menua Soghomonyan also expressed confidence that “these fabricated cases will ultimately collapse.”
