Lawlessness against Gagik Tsarukyan: PAP supporters deliver letter to Iranian ambassador to Armenia
Teammates and supporters of Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) leader Gagik Tsarukyan delivered a letter to the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia. After the letter was delivered, PAP member Arman Abovyan said that a high-ranking embassy official had assured them that the embassy was following the developments surrounding Gagik Tsarukyan.
“We received assurances that this case will be under the attention of the Islamic Republic of Iran and that they will remain consistent in this matter,” Abovyan said.
Before delivering the letter, PAP spokesperson Iveta Tonoyan said that a number of letters concerning Gagik Tsarukyan’s arrest had been sent to various embassies, and that they had decided to personally deliver the PAP’s letter to the Iranian ambassador.
“It is unacceptable to us that the centuries-old friendly relations between Armenia and Iran are being jeopardized because of two Iranian citizens – fraudsters and swindlers. Gagik Tsarukyan has always advocated strengthening Armenian-Iranian economic, cultural, trade and political ties and has done everything possible to develop and strengthen relations between the two countries. This is a false and unfounded accusation, on the basis of which Gagik Tsarukyan was arrested. It also has certain motives, and certain people and forces are clearly behind it, aiming to worsen Armenian-Iranian relations. Mr. Ambassador, there is a legal lawlessness against Tsarukyan,” the PAP leader’s spokesperson said.
After the letter was handed over, PAP supporters held a demonstration in front of the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan in support of Gagik Tsarukyan.
