Powerful snowstorm hits Washington

One of the largest snowfall hit Washington and Baltimore on Friday, grounding flights, closing schools and offices. Federal workers were allowed to leave early due to concerns over potential traffic issues. The storm could become one of the top five storms of all time.

“Tonight into Saturday morning will be about as dangerous as winter weather can get around here,” the New York Times quotes Christopher Strong of the National Weather Service’s Baltimore-Washington office. He recommended that people in the region stay off the roads and out of the way of plowing crews and emergency vehicles.

Temperatures in New York will hover in the high 20s today and for the remainder of the weekend, but strong winds will make it feel much colder.
