Navasard to be marked on June 14

There is much information about ancient holidays but no concrete dates to mark them are known.

According to research data, in the past Navasard was marked a week before summer solstice, which by modern calendar is June 14.

Navasard was a festivity lasting 7 days, with various strata people taking part in it. “Recollecting national holidays, marking them is aimed at keeping our identity, returning to our national roots,” Viktor Hambardzumyan House-Museum Director, calendarologist Grigor Brutyan said adding that in the past the court gathered at the foot of Mount Npat and solemnly marked Navasard.

It is the fourth year that the holiday will be marked, by tradition. According to Brutyan, harissa was served as ritual dish, cooked of newly matured wheat and sacrifice meat.

According to poetess Anahit Sargsyan, not common but only national folk and ethnographic songs and dances were performed during Navasard celebration. Navasard’s 4th day was newly matured wheat reverence day and the 6th marriage day.

By the way, on June 14, at 09:00am buses will carry passengers from Sundukyan Theater neighboring territory to Aragatsotn region to mark Navasard on the slopes of Mount Aragats.
