Pressures upon journalists increase
5 cases of pressure upon journalists, 3 cases of physical violence against journalists and 5 cases of violating the right of getting and issuing information were recorded in the second quarter of 2010 in Armenia. Except physical violence, the number of other violations increased, as compared with the same period of the previous year (1 case was recorded in 2009). Members of the Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression told reporters today, when presenting the quarterly report of 2010.
According to Committee Chairman Ashot Melikyan, in 2009, increase in physical violence against journalists – 8 cases, was caused by Yerevan Council of Elders elections, political tension.
