G. Harutyunyan: Armenian-Russian agreement is beneficial for us

The protocol on extending the term of deployment of the Russian military base in Armenia until 2044 signed today is strategically beneficial not only for Russia but also for Armenia, Head of the Noravank Center Gagik Harutyunyan told a press conference.

The political scientist positively assessed the signing of the agreement, especially due to the constant threat to Armenia’s national security by the neighboring Turkey.

In this connection, the expert reminded that it was Russian mediation that prevented a dramatic Armenian-Turkish war in 1992, when Turkey concentrated troops along the border with Armenia, in Nakhichevan.

Harutyunyan said the new agreements will further strengthen Armenian national security.
