Charles Aznavour calls on Israel to recognize Armenian Genocide

Famous French-Armenian chansonnier Charles Aznavour called on Israel to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide committed in the Ottoman Empire, Nashe Kafe reports citing Kol Israel.

Speaking at the ceremony of giving University of Jerusalem International Award Sunday in Paris, Aznavour stated that Turkey’s “crude anti-Semitism” was revealed just in the recent years, Turkey took open anti-Israeli positions on all Middle East problems.

Aznavour has been Armenian Ambassador to Switzerland and Armenia's Permanent Representative at the UN Office since May 5, 2009.

Since 1915 Ottoman Turkey started deliberate persecutions of the Armenian population, up to mass extermination of Armenians. The cruel slaughter killed 1.5 million Armenians, forced over 500,000 leave their homes. A large Armenian Diaspora was formed in many countries worldwide after the Armenian Genocide.

A number of states have officially recognized the Armenian Genocide.
