Armenians of Azerbaijan honor the memory of victims of Sumgait

Today the Armenians of Azerbaijan moved to Tsisternakaberd with a mourning procession where the memorial to the victims of pogroms which Azeri realized against Armenians in Azerbaijan on 26, 27 and 28 of February in 1988, is situated.

Many Armenians of Azerbaijan whose relatives were brutally killed during those days partook in the procession.

Member of the organizing committee of the Congress of the Armenians of Azerbaijan Roman Gulbandyan mentioned at the interview with the journalists that the issue of the Armenians of Azerbaijan should be put on the negotiation table.

“The negotiation process will not go one till the issue of the Armenians of Azerbaijan has not received a solution. The issue of the Armenians of Azerbaijan should be treated as an issue of a nation that survived genocide,” he stressed.

He also mentioned that out of 600 thousand refugees there are only 100 thousand left in Armenia. However 2 million Armenians have left Azerbaijan during the Soviet Union period, and the issue of these Armenians should also be touched as these people have “left the homes of their ancestors not because of the good life conditions.”

Roman Gulbandyan also mentioned that the Armenians of Azerbaijan will present their demands to the Azerbaijani Republic as the second nation that established that country.

“In the Azerbaijani constitution of 1918 is written that an Armenian-Muslim Republic is established. Today Azerbaijan has declared himself the legal successor of that Republic and not the Azerbaijan of the Soviet Republic,” the speaker said and added that he will do everything to take Azerbaijan to the court.
