My native town fell down in front of my eyes

Today is December 7, in some 10 minutes, at 11:40 the 24th anniversary will be marked of the devastating earthquake that occurred in Armenia.

And though years have passed, the memories of this day and the days following it have not been healed for many Armenians. Many of them share their memories on their Facebook page.

Naira Karapetyan, the RPA MP, made a note in the social network:

“I didn’t see many of my relatives, classmates, friends and fellows anymore… I never returned to my cozy room, me and my sister never played with our friends in our yard. Our house was devastated.

Till now I hear the lament of once beautiful, proud city of Alexandrapol, Gyumri, Leninakan.

It was the irony of fate I guess, the Geography book in my hands I was reading about the earthquake.

I am grateful to God that he spared the lives of my relatives. I am deeply grateful to him.

My dear city, 24 years have passed. You have become Gyumry. Maybe you are more modern and beautiful now, but I miss you, the city which had the look of proud beauty… I have one dream only, I want your smile never shade away again. Do not lament… Do not break down… You have got an old name, but it has a Turkish element in itself. I want you to be remained Alekpol… I want you to have new life with new name… but this is still a dream.

Blossom my dear, God with you…”
