Armenian communities lack for agronomists

“In Armenia, it is not every community that has its own agronomist”, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Garnik Petrosian told reporters at a meeting today.

He also had difficulty specifying how many agronomists currently work in the country, for the simple reason that no such data has been provided to the ministry.

The deputy minister urged community heads to create jobs for agronomists in their communities. At the same time he stressed that very often this job is done by someone who is not expert in the field.

When trying to give the total number of agriculturists, G. Petrosian said that three or four specialists possibly work in marzes (provinces), adding that their number is insufficient. «Some regional bodies are «trying to implement» - through NGOs - the instructions developed by the Ministry of Agriculture for the agricultural sector, because communities lack for experts who give necessary advice».
