Why is convention of HHSh rather than of HAK called?
There is an opinion among members of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) that at the convention of Armenian All-National Movement Party (HHSh) on December 22, Levon Ter-Petrosian will announce his decision to run for President. HAK says that this issue can be considered as 99% decided. But why is a HHSh convention rather than that of HAK is called, after all Ter-Petrosian is a candidate of HAK and not only of HHSh?
The explanation is that until recently the issue of nominating Ter-Petrosian as a presidential candidate was not discussed because the nomination of Gagik Tsarukian was considered more likely, and now there is not enough time to hold a HAK convention, “168 Hours” wrote.
It is also possible that a HAK convention is not called so that no one will see what has remained of this organization set up in 2008.
Despite claims of HAK members that Ter-Petrosian will be nominated, outside the HAK there is an opinion that Ter-Petrosian will not take such a step and Levon Zurabian will be fielded as HAK candidate at the HHSh convention.
The point is that if Zurabian was nominated by HAK, some forces making part of HAK might prevent this by exercising their right of veto. The HHSh forces remaining in HAK will defend him, while the others will be called forces “cooperating with authorities”.
