Chairman of Writers Union sums up the year: Unprecedented year
“2012 was an unprecedentedly fruitful year. We have achieved success in several directions,” Chairman of the Union of Writers of Armenia Levon Ananian said during the meeting with reporters today.
He pointed out the publication of books as the first achievement. “In 2012 we have published 2,000 titles of books on average, 15% of which were fiction. The problem of quality is another matter: in the conditions of market relations, there are people who release their memoirs with their own money. This year the Union of Writers has organized 135 literary events such as presentations, conferences, various meetings in the army, schools, and universities. Close cooperation was established with a number of regional libraries,” Ananian stated.
In his words, the most significant event of the year was the 500th anniversary of Armenian printing. The union has actively cooperated with state bodies, particularly with the Ministry of Culture.
