Gallup: Close election battle not expected

42% of the respondents will vote at the presidential election due in February. The participation of 36% depends on who the candidates will be: the general participation of society in the election will make 70%.

The survey was carried out on the initiative of ArmNews TV Channel, by the Armenian Sociological Association and Baltic Surveys/the Gallup Organization, as part of pre-election surveys.

According to the survey, 36% of respondents are not interested in politics, 28% take a moderate interest, and 36% are greatly interested in politics.

“The survey’s purpose is to present the initial state of the public mood ahead of the presidential election in the Republic”, Director of the Armenian Sociological Association Gevorg Poghosian said.

Gallup’s representative Dr. Rasa Alisauskiene spoke about the results of the public opinion survey in Armenia. 
Asked how the economic situation has changed in Armenia in recent months, 33% said it has not changed, 27% said it has improved a little, and the rest said that it has worsened.

Asked which party they favor, 47% said – Republican Party of Armenia (HHK), 32% - Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), 6% - Armenian National Congress (HAK), 5% - the ARF-Dashnaktsutyun, etc.

It was revealed that the majority of respondents learned of political events from television news, others – from relatives and friends, through from the Internet, radio, and newspapers.

Summarizing the survey results, sociologist Poghosian said that a close election battle is not expected.
