NSS: Fewer marriages, fewer births recorded this year There were
There were 30,906 births in Armenia in the first nine months of this year. Compared with 31,854 births in the same period of last year, there was a 3% decline, Head of the Census and Demography Unit of the RA National Statistical Service (NSS) Karine Kuyumjian said at a press conference today.
According to her, 13,828 marriages were recorded in nine months of 2012; their number also fell compared with the same period of last year. At the same time there was a 3.1% growth in the number of divorces.
The birth rate was high in Yerevan and Kotayk province, while in Tavush, Syunik and Lori provinces it was lower than the republican average.
Speaking about the death rate, K. Kuyumjian said that this index also declined: there were 4 deaths per 1000 residents.
