NSS data does not correspond to reality

Prices have risen 10-12% in the consumer market at the moment, Chairman of Consumers’ Union Armen Poghosian said.
According to him, one should not believe the press reports that prices of foodstuffs have risen by 20% and will rise by another 20% by the New Year.

Poghosian disagrees with data of the National Statistical Service (NSS). He met with NSS representatives who said that the price growth made 3%.

The chairman of Consumers’ Union noted that in order to see the true picture, it is necessary to examine 20-25 most essential goods, whereas NSS has examined about 900 goods for years on end, including goods that an Armenian citizen buys once or twice in his/her lifetime.

In Poghosian’s words, 10-12% of society does not notice the growth in prices. At the same time, 40% and 25% of society is considered to be poor and extremely poor, respectively.
