Situation may change depending on nomination of other candidates

In Armenia people trust Gallup Organization’s surveys. Gallup’s representative Rasa Alisauskiene said this during a talk with a correspondent of News.am.

“No public opinion surveys were conducted in the Soviet time. Society knows very little about how a survey is carried out and what such surveys indicate. It takes time to realize the necessity of such surveys,” she said, adding that problems sometimes arise during political surveys when this or that political figure gets a low percent.

As for the ratings of the presidential candidates in Armenia, including 49% of votes that the incumbent president may receive, Alisauskiene noted that a further increase or fall in these votes will depend on what candidates will run in the election. “President Serzh Sargsyan is now far ahead of the others, but the situation may change depending on the nomination of other candidates,” she said, News.am reports.

When asked if the chances of Armenian National Congress (HAK) leader Levon Ter-Petrosian will decline, given the fact that HAK faction deputy, former Prime Minister Hrant Bagratian has expressed an intention to put up his own candidacy, Alisauskiene replied the situation will be clear when all the candidates are known. “Those who vote for Ter-Petrosian and Bagratian are very much like each other because both men represent HAK. Therefore if HAK has two candidates, their supporters will have to choose between them and so the votes for that political force will split,” she concluded.
