Situation in SPU shatters peace of other universities
After being appointed Chairman of the Council of the State Pedagogical University (SPU) after K. Abovian, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan immediately began raising the university’s authority. It is no accident that this year the salaries of university employees have increased by 40%, “Hraparak” daily writes.
“They say this has been done thanks to saving the money allocated for the university facilities’ improvement. This process is said to have shattered the peace of other universities, whose lecturers, citing the example of SPU, demand that their salaries be raised. Our daily was informed that the lecturers of Yerevan State University are also discontented and demand that YSU Rector Aram Simonian should allocate the improvement sums for raising the salaries. Simonian got annoyed and complained to Serzh Sargsyan. So the financial condition of lecturers depends on who holds the position of Chairman of the given university’s Governing Council.”
