In case of receiving considerable votes, Bagratian to be opposition leader

Apathy reigned yesterday in the Armenian National Congress (HAK) office, even though Levon Ter-Petrosian’s decision was unexpected to HAK members. Those in the HAK office did not determine yet the format of their participation in the election. They did not make a decision about whether to support Hrant Bagratian or not.

According to “Hraparak” daily’s HAK sources, in all likelihood, a decision will be made not to support him, but some forces will split from HAK – those which will support the former prime minister. To all appearances, Republic Party led by Aram Sargsyan will also back Bagratian. It is not ruled out that after some discussions, Free Democrats Party will also decide to support him. Everyone understands that in any case, Bagratian is going to struggle for second place, and everyone is curious to know if Bagratian will congratulate Serzh Sargsyan or not. If Bagratian receives a considerable number of votes, he is likely to become the leader of HAK and the opposition and be able to form a new political force in the near future.
