Eurointegration continues to be priority

“In 2012 Armenia European integration process was noted for its depth and intensity and it differed from the 2011 process,” Chairman of European Integration NGO, political scientist Karen Bekarian said at the meeting with reporters today, when summarizing the results of Armenia- the European Union relations and Armenia’s achievements on the European integration path in 2012.

He said that a number of high-ranking European officials paid visits to Yerevan, while President Serzh Sargsyan and Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian visited Brussels. The speaker underlined the high dynamics of the mutual visits. 

“The agreement on the visa regime facilitation with the EU has been signed, which is an important step in terms of deepening Armenia-EU relations,” Bekarian stated.

This year, great attention was paid to the negotiations on the deep and comprehensive free trade agreement, which is of importance to every citizen of Armenia.

Bekarian attached importance to cooperation between Armenia and the European parliament, noting that this cooperation helps deepen Armenia-EU ties. 

In his words, the EU appreciated the parliamentary elections held in Armenia this year, which was also an achievement.

“We have also seen the establishment of institutional relations between Armenia and the EU, including the fact that three Armenian parties have become members of the European People’s Part,” the political scientist said.

According to him, European integration continues to be one of Armenia’s foreign policy priorities, and President Serzh Sargsyan noted this in his speech.
