7 candidates have 48 hours to pay electoral pledges
Seven presidential candidates were given 48 hours to pay their electoral pledges.
They shall submit an 8 million-dram receipt by January 10, 02:00 pm.
The incumbent Armenian President, Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, Chairman of Freedom Party Hrant Bagratian, Chairman of Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian, President of Radio Hay LLC Andreas Ghukasian, former Foreign Minister of the NKR Arman Melikian, Chairman of National Self-Determination Union Paruyr Hayrikian, and epos expert Vardan Sedrakian have submitted electoral pledge payment receipts to the Central Election Commission (CEC).
During the extraordinary sitting of CEC, Tigran Mukuchian said that two persons - the incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan and Hrant Bagratian - out of the 15 citizens, who have submitted documents for registration at CEC, were nominated by their parties, the rest are self-nominated candidates.
7 of the 15 presidential candidates, namely President of Armenia’s National Karate Kobudo Federation, unaffiliated person Taron Abrahamian, Chairman of Armenian-Russian Social Union NGO, unaffiliated person Robert Aharonian, attorney of the European Court of Human Right Ruben Aivazian, Chairman of National Accord Party Aram Harutyunian, Chairwoman of the National Press Club Narine Mkrtchian, pensioner Pavlik Sargsyan, and Chairman of Kashatagh NGO Robert Simonian have not submitted any receipts, while currently unemployed, unaffiliated person Mher Hayrapetian has submitted a receipt of 1,000 AMD.
During the CEC sitting pensioner Pavlik Sargsyan said that the CEC is violating a Constitutional provision. “Each person has the right to be elected. Like many other Armenian citizens, I am a socially vulnerable person and cannot pay such a large amount,” P. Sarsyan said, demanding that he be allowed to exercise his right to be elected.
