Mukuchian: Some presidential candidates should widen their knowledge

The law envisages equal conditions for all presidential candidates. The requirements are clearly stipulated in the Electoral Code, and every person who wishes to nominate his/her candidacy shall be guided by those requirements.

Chairman of the Central Election Commission Tigran Mukuchian said this during a talk with reporters following the CEC sitting, when commenting on the statements made by two presidential candidates to the effect that payment of an 8 million-dram electoral pledge is anti-constitutional.

“The statements of two potential candidates that this provision of the law is anti-constitutional shows that they lack knowledge in this field and need to widen their knowledge,” T. Mukuchian stressed.

Let us remind you that during the CEC sitting held today, the self-nominated candidate, pensioner Pavlik Sargsyan declared that he has no intention of submitting a receipt as he considers this provision of the law as anti-constitutional. Candidate Robert Simonian, who had not submitted a receipt, also made a similar statement.

It should be noted that CEC has given another 48 hours to 7 presidential candidates so that they could pay their electoral pledges and submit receipts.
