H. Sahakian: HHK not to blame for non-nomination of some candidates

“People worthy of respect are running in this presidential election,” deputy of Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) faction Hovhannes Sahakian said at the meeting with reporters today.

Despite this, in the deputy’s opinion, few of the presidential candidates have followed a significant path and have political capital. “Raffi Hovannisian, Hrant Bagratian, and Paruyr Hayrikian have some political capital. The same cannot be said about the rest,” Sahakian noted.

In his words, the three abovementioned candidates along with the incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan can be considered “rating” candidates.

As regards the non-participation of several political forces in the election, Sahakian said that each force is responsible for its steps and its image.

“The image-related factors depend on those political forces, rather than on HHK. We are aware of several potential candidates’ decisions not to run for President, but, excuse me, HHK should not be blamed for that,” Sahakian said.
