Armenian foreign minister sums up 2012 foreign-policy results

“It was once again confirmed in 2012 that Armenia’s strategy on the Artsakh problem solution is not only comprehensible to the international community, but it also enjoys the international community’s support, which is evident from the joint statement issued by the presidents of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan in Sochi on 23 January 2012,” Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian stated at the meeting with reporters today, when summing up the foreign policy developments in 2012.

According to him, the negotiations on the Nagorno Karabakh problem were undermined by regular ceasefire violations committed by Azerbaijan and its provocations along the line of contact with Artsakh.

“The destructive steps of Baku drew a negative response of the international community. The Safarov deal was also condemned throughout the world,” the foreign minister said.

He noted that this year Armenia will continue to strengthen its strategic relations with Russia and promote Armenia-U.S. ties.
In his words, consistent steps were taken to develop good-neighborly relations with Georgia and Iran.

The minister said that notable progress was made in Armenia-EU relations, the country’s links with NATO were strengthened as well.

In 2012 Armenia established diplomatic relations with four states and became a full member of La Francophonie organization.
