Arman Melikian: Many citizens on voter lists are abroad
“The tactics of the candidates became clear during the first week of election campaign, but they did not say how the legality of the election can be ensured,” former Foreign Minister of Nagorno Karabakh, presidential candidate Arman Melikian said at the meeting with reporters today, when discussing the election campaign and his own programs.
In his words, the presidential candidates can be divided into two camps: one includes Serzh Sargsyan, Raffi Hovannisian, and Hrant Bagratian who don’t call into question the legitimacy and legality of the presidential election, despite the falsification recorded in previous elections. “These candidates turn a blind eye to election falsification”.
Armen Melikan does not consider as efficient the tactics of other candidates – the hunger strike of Andrias Ghukasian and Aram Harutyunian’s intention to withdraw his candidacy. “Such steps will only deepen despair in society. I witness people’s current indifference about the elections. They use every opportunity to leave the country”.
Melikian said he yesterday met with OSCE observers and discussed with them the election campaign-related issues and the problem of voter lists.
“Many Armenian citizens, who are included in voter lists and are eligible to vote, are abroad now,” Melikian noted.
In his words, he is not going to conduct a classic campaign and present economic and other programs until the main problem is solved, that is, until the list of persons having the right to vote in Armenia is released, which is important for ensuring the legality of the elections.
