Sharmazanov meets Greek ambassador

The vice speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly Edward Sharmazanov met today with the Greek Ambassador to Armenia Ioannis Taghis, the NA press service reports.

The interlocutors discussed issues related to the upcoming presidential election in Armenia. Sharmazanov underlined that the Armenian authorities consider it important to hold the election in line with international standards. According to him, the election race is competitive. Unlike the pervious election, it is taking place on the basis of election programs and ideologies, whereas political nihilism and mutual insults are absent.

The Greek ambassador expressed an opinion that the current election is going to be a station where Armenia’s democratic values will become clear. As regards the complaints expressed, he said these complaints are not serious and cannot affect the process and results of the election. He added that in all countries, complaints are voiced at a pre-election stage and the main thing is that competent bodies should respond rapidly to all complaints in order to prevent possible violations. The ambassador expressed hope that Armenia will prove once again that it is on the right track in implementing its reforms.
