Temperature to rise sharply, floods likely
A sharp increase in temperature is expected in Armenia on March 15-17, floods are likely, Head of Weather Forecast Unit of Meteorological Service of the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations Gagik Surenian said at the meeting with journalists today.
“The temperature has already increased notably, reaching 25 degrees in valleys of Syunik and Tavush provinces,” he said, adding that there was a rise in air temperature in mountainous regions as well where the thickness of snow cover is up to 90 cm.
According to G. Surenian, heavy precipitation expected on March 18, as a result of which rivers may burst their banks and some settlements and riverside areas may be flooded.
The speaker noted that in Armenia, floods last occurred on March 5-6, 2004.
“On March 18 the temperature will drop by 8-10 degrees and precipitation is expected,” Gagik Surenian said.
