New Russian ambassador to continue with Kovalenko’s course

“Of the Russian ambassadors to Armenia in the post-Soviet period, Vyacheslav Kovalenko was the most experienced, and it is no accident that he was the Russian ambassador to Georgia when the situation there was very tense,” political scientist Sergei Minasian said at the meeting with reporters today.

“The former ambassador did much work related to the signing of a bilateral agreement between Armenia and Russia in 2010. Besides, Kovalenko was thoroughly familiar with the Karabakh problem,” Minasian noted.

According to him, the new Russian ambassador is also conversant with the South Caucasian region and has long experience of work in the Russian foreign ministry.

The expert said the new ambassador Volynkin will continue with the diplomatic course of V. Kovalenko and use his wide experience to further strengthen the Armenian-Russian relationship.

Minasian added that Volynkin will place emphasis on deepening bilateral military-political as well as trade and economic ties and on the political resolution of the Karabakh conflict.
