Stepan Safarian comments on Serzh Sargsyan’s letter

At a meeting with journalists today, Heritage Party’s Secretary Stepan Safarian commented on the letter that President Serzh Sargsyan has sent to Raffi Hovannisian. In his words, everyone from an ordinary citizen to the Armenian president wants the Heritage leader Raffi Hovannisian to end his hunger strike.

“I am glad about the letter,” Safarian stated. According to him, contacting each other is the best option.

However, Safarian noted that he has an impression that by answering the letter, Serzh Sargsyan is stalling for time. “It makes no difference to me when and where they meet, but I see some elements of refusal here,” Safarian said.

Let us remind you President Serzh Sargsyan sent a letter to Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian today. The letter particularly reads:

“Thank you for finally accepting the proposal I made at our meeting and for committing your ideas to paper and sending it to me. Although the written material sent to me is far from proper notions of a state and state power and contradicts constitutional regulations, it may nevertheless help launch an efficient dialog.

It is gratifying that you show readiness to assume serious supervisory functions of strong opposition and that our opinions on this issue seem quite close. I am sure that if we start doing purposeful work together based on the unanimity of views , we will achieve a result.

I urge you to end your hunger strike, recover strength for one or two days so that we could start working together based on the material - raw at the moment - proposed by you”.
