“People will benefit from talks between Sargsyan and Hovannisian”

“We should welcome the negotiations between Serzh Sargsyan and Raffi Hovannisian because the people, our state and political system will benefit from these negotiations,” Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) member Artak Davtian stated at the meeting with journalists today, when discussing the domestic political situation and post-election developments.

He attached importance to constitutional mechanisms. “The opposition may head the Anti-Corruption Commission and assume duties of heads of other supervisory bodies,” Davtian noted.

In his words, by participating in these commissions’ activities, the opposition will contribute to the formation of a stable system of checks and balances between the authorities and opposition in Armenia.

For her part, Free Democrats Party’s representative Ms. Anush Sedrakian said that the implementation of the current political process by means of letters makes it a bit unserious and that the opposition should be careful because the whole society is following the process.

“The opposition has no right to ruin the process: it should act according to the scenario reflecting public interests,” she stressed.
According to Anush Sedrakian, the opposition risks losing the people‘s trust after being included in various commissions. “The opposition should take control of those processes, which will allow the opposition to take part in the fight against corruption and the reforms in the country,” Anush Sedrakian said.
