Sharmazanov: Republican Party will struggle for victory

Vice Speaker of Armenian parliament Edward Sharmazanov met today with students of Yerevan State University’s Department of International Relations and answered their questions about Armenia’s domestic and foreign policies, the presidential press service said.

At the request of students, he discussed the opportunities of the opposition’s unification in the upcoming elections to Yerevan Council of Elders. In his words, Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) is in favor of competitive struggle and it will struggle for victory, the capital city’s prosperity and further development. He called the opportunities of the opposition’s unification vague because the current opposition is multilayer, with struggle for leadership being waged between various opposition forces.

Touching upon the possible dialog between President Serzh Sargsyan and the leader of Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian, Sharmazanov said he is in favor of solving political problems by political means, rather than by escalating the situation by means of insults and extremist statements. In this connection he appreciated the president’s readiness to listen to the interlocutor and his ability to make objective and constructive decisions aimed at effective solution of problems in a legitimate way, with society’s support and in an atmosphere of mutual understanding.

Sharmazanov also discussed issues of personnel policy, the country’s security, and the balanced, multi-vector policy of Armenia.
