Hmayak Hovhannisian: Raffi behaves in contradictory way
The Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian has behaved in a contradictory way. Chairman of the Union of Political Scientists Hmayak Hovhannisian expressed this opinion at a meeting with journalists today.
“After the presidential election Raffi Hovannisian went on hunger strike, declaring that it was a form of political struggle, and not a fast. However, after ending his hunger strike, R. Hovannisian said he observed the fast as a Christian. This is not the only contradictory approach displayed by Raffi Hovannisian,” the political scientist said.
In his words, Raffi Hovannisian’s position has weakened after talks about some government positions began.
“The emotional atmosphere that formed in Liberty Square following the election has become less tense – not because Raffi Hovannisian’s hunger strike was ineffective, but because doubts about the hunger strike began among the people in the square. The same happened previously in case of Armenian National Congress: when movement leaders choose the path of bargaining with the authorities, the people get frustrated and feel alienated,” Hmayak Hovhannisian noted.
In his words, he does not understand the meaning of sharing power with the people- under the Constitution, the power belongs to people and it can be either taken away from the people or returned to them.
“Following his hunger strike, Raffi Hovannisian has embarked on another tour of Armenian provinces as the other opposition forces are trying to challenge his right to play the key role in the opposition movement,” the speaker noted.
