Serzh Sargsyan meets with Iranian foreign minister
President Serzh Sargsyan received today Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi who arrived in Armenia to attend the April 9 inauguration of S. Sargsyan who was re-elected in the February 18 presidential election, the presidential press service reported.
S. Sargsyan stated that Armenia appreciates and attaches importance to relations with its friendly neighbor Iran. The sides discussed issues of bilateral economic cooperation in a number of spheres, expressing satisfaction with the growth rates of bilateral trade. They also stressed the importance of implementing joint energy and transport projects, including the operation of the Armenia-Iran third high-voltage power line and the construction of a hydropower plant on the Arax River.
On behalf of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the country’s government and people, Ali Akbar Selehi extended good wishes to President Serzh Sargsyan. For his part, S. Sargsyan wished success to the Iranian people in the upcoming presidential election in June. The Armenian president and Iran’s foreign minister exchanged views on the regional developments.
