Rustamian: Hovannisian should have led single opposition list

It is necessary to set up an opposition alliance prior to the May 5 elections to Yerevan Council of Elders and Raffi Hovannisian should lead the alliance, the member of ARF-Dashnaktsutyun Party Supreme Body Armen Rustamian, who heads the ARFD list in the upcoming Yerevan elections, told journalists before the constituent congress of HAK Party today.

He said that following the April 9 events, their party is not frustrated with Raffi Hovannisian and “Hello Revolution” movement. “We should draw lessons from all this,” Rustamian noted.

In his words, having the opposition mayor in the capital city is of great importance to the newly-formed movement.

“We tried to form a united opposition alliance, but could not come to an agreement over the leader. If Raffi Hovannisian had agreed to lead the united opposition alliance, we would have succeeded. Yet, in Hovannisian’s opinion, it would belittle his victory in the presidential elections, whereas he should have considered it as part of the movement,” Armen Rustamian said.
