Municipality provides explanations on historic building in Pushkin Street
Yerevan Municipality has issued a statement, providing explanations regarding the historic building at 25 Pushkin Street in Kentron (Center) administrative district of Yerevan.
“In connection with media reports about the building at 25 in Pushkin Street, we consider it necessary to say that no changes will be made in the exterior of the indicated building (residential house designed by architect A. Tamanian), which was included in the list of immovable historical and cultural monuments of Yerevan.
The draft designs of buildings to be constructed next to the mentioned building were discussed in detail in Yerevan Municipality and the Ministry of Culture. As a result, a decision was made to rule out the possibility of any intervention in the project designed by Tamanian,” the statement reads.
A campaign to save the building at 25 Pushkin Street was launched on Facebook earlier. The participants of the initiative will hold a discussion tomorrow. They are concerned about the Armenian government’s decision to transfer the building to the State Property Management Department at the Armenian government. The initiative organizers were informed that there are plans to build a hotel on the site of the historic building.
