T. Jagland: Council of Europe has great expectations for Armenia

The Council of Europe has great expectations for Armenia, which will assume the Presidency of the CE Committee of Ministers in a month, the Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland stated at the press conference in Yerevan today.

He spoke about a number of serious problems to be solved.

“The main challenges are corruption, tax evasion, money laundering, and trafficking. These are real dangers, which undermine people’s trust in the political system”, T. Jagland stated. In his words, the security of European countries is undermined from inside, rather from outside, because of the lack of trust.

Prior to the press conference, a meeting took place between Acting Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian and Thorbjorn Jagland, during which a mutual understanding memorandum on the establishment of the CE Office in Yerevan and its legal status was signed between the Armenian government and the Council of Europe.
