Demoyan: In 2015 we should regroup our forces and move forward

“2015 is only an anniversary. We should not perceive it as an end. Quite the opposite, it is a starting point, from which we should move forward. In 2015 we should reorganize and regroup our forces and move forward,” Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Hayk Demoyan said at a press conference today.

He stressed the necessity to specify all the existing formulations and demands and make an all-Armenian demand.

As for the activities of the Commission for Coordination of Events dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, H. Demoyan noted that the commission has already held two sittings and plans to hold a third one in May. In his words, the commission should be able to answer the main questions: Will there be a juridical confrontation and will Armenia appeal to international courts? “It is a matter of principle that should be discussed by the commission,” Demoyan stressed.

Turkologist Anush Hovhannisian said the commission was set up rather late. According to her, our main achievement is that today the Armenian Genocide is an acknowledged fact in academic circles throughout the world.

Another participant of the press conference, the deputy dean of the Yerevan State University’s Department of Oriental Studies Ruben Melkonian said that Armenian academic circles have done much work, with a lot of serious works and monographs being written.

“Unlike the works of Armenian scientists, those written in Turkey cannot be competitive. They face a difficult task: to refute the truth, so their studies are called into question,” R. Melkonian noted.
