Shavarsh Kocharian: Genocide should be recognized first of all by Turkey

“We pursue universal, rather than political goals,” Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharian told reporters at Tsitsernakaberd Memorial.

He said that numerous countries have recognized the Armenian Genocide, but it is first of all Turkey that should acknowledge those events.

Kocharian declared that the international process of the Armenian Genocide recognition will continue after 2015, too. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is doing the necessary work in this direction,” he stated.

In response to the question: “Isn’t it time to move the issue to a legal plane?” S. Kocharian replied that it is still early to appeal to an international court and at first we should undergo certain phases.
