Armenia to get support of European Parliament and other structures

President Serzh Sargsyan received today members of the European Parliament’s EU-Armenia Friendship Group headed by Eleni Theocharous, the presidential press service reported.

The president welcomed the members of the EU-Armenia Friendship Group, calling the creation of the group a call of the times and a necessity, taking into account the current high level and intensity of Armenia-EU relations. He expressed confidence that the group’s activities will help deepen the relations and raise issues of importance to Armenia in the European Parliament.

The deputies of European Parliament congratulated Serzh Sargsyan on his re-election as Armenian President. They stressed that Armenia’s friends will continue supporting it in the European Parliament, other European structures, and parliaments of EU member states.

The sides discussed the development of Armenia-EU ties, touching upon the current agenda and prospects of cooperation, including cooperation within the framework of EU-Armenia Friendship Group.

They also exchanged views on regional problems and challenges, the current stage of the Karabakh conflict settlement, relations between Armenia and Turkey, the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and other issues of mutual interest.
