M. Dovlatian: Politicization of Yerevan municipal elections is inadmissible

The politicization of the May 5 elections to Yerevan Council of Elders is inadmissible, film director Mikael Dovlatian said at a press conference today. Dovlatian is a candidate on the list of Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) running in the May 5 elections.

“Yerevan is a living organism. I feel sorry for our city which may not be able to endure so many elections and such a tense atmosphere. Yerevan is not a test site, not a place for satisfying one’s political ambitions. We speak about issues, while our colleagues from the opposition only about politics,” he said.

Another speaker of the press conference, Levon Igitian who is also on HHK list of candidates, expressed confidence that the less perceptible the politicization process, the more efficient the creative process will be.

“In the past twenty years our society has lived under some incomprehensible political pressure. This does not contribute to our life and progress.

We should not politicize our society. We have much work to do in order to establish and develop Armenian society,” Igitian stated.
