S. Bagratian: Damaging person’s reputation is unbecoming to our public

“The election campaign is being conducted within legal boundaries. No violations or incidents have been reported so far,” ex-governor of Vayots Dzor province Sergei Bagratian told journalists today. S. Bagratian is number 4 on the Prosperous Armenia Party’s (BHK) list of candidates to Yerevan Council of Elders.

He also discussed the scandal linked to his name during the elections to local self-government bodies on 23 September 2012. “I had never met such an approach before.”

“If lovers of that genre think that elections are a fitting occasion to damage a person’s reputation, in my opinion, this approach is unbecoming to our public,” S. Bagratian noted.

He added that at the time there was tension as well as “some phenomena not in line with the electoral law”, but there was no factual evidence for opening a criminal case.

He said that in Armenia sociological school is not developed so the results of sociological surveys and studies cannot be trustworthy.

We would remind you that a scandal broke during the 2012 elections to local self-government bodies: there were press reports that S. Bagratian used violence against a policeman at the polling station.

Besides, “Zhamanak” daily wrote, citing its sources that Sergei Bagratian misappropriated diesel fuel provided by the government in 2012, during his term as governor of Vayots Dzor province.
