S. Mikaelian: Ter-Petrosian left strong army and began 3-month muster

A new opposition force is likely to be formed in Armenia soon, the veteran of the Karabakh war, commander of Sasun detachment Sasun Mikaelian said at the meeting with reporters today.

“In Armenia there are healthy forces and persons who have lost their individuality in recent years. Instead of taking actions aimed at strengthening the foundations of statehood, the authorities are acting in the interests of some people and in order to retain their posts, “ Mikaelian said.

When asked about the possibility of Nikol Pashinian’s becoming the leader of the new force, Sasun Mikaelian said: “It is a subtle reference to a glaring fact”, adding that time will show.

He considered the cooperation of Armenian National Congress (HAK) with Prosperous Armenia Party as wrong, which was evident from the number of votes received in the elections to Yerevan Council of Elders.

“The opposition has lost because of the wrong policy implemented in recent years. Irrespective of violations committed by the authorities, the number of citizens who voted for the opposition has declined,” the speaker noted.

As for the reorganized Armenian National Congress Party, Myasnik Malkhasian said he will never join that political force.

In his words, he would not like to discredit anyone or criticize Levon Ter-Petrosian, but on Shushi Liberation Day, he will use military terms.

“What did Levon Ter-Petrosian do? He left a strong army in the square and began to recruit new people for a three-month muster, which ended in such a result,” S. Mikaelian said in conclusion.
