Ashotian: Achievements notable in education

Five major achievements have been recorded recently in the sphere of education, Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotian told reporters today.

In his words, preschool education opportunities were created in 140 communities of Armenia, and ensuring preschool education in 90% of the communities is a priority of the Ministry of Education and Science.

“New standards of education quality have been set in higher education. Stricter conditions of licensing were established, and the number of private universities has halved,” Ashotian said.

“Fewer young men get draft deferment now. Chess lessons in schools are yet another achievement. This program aroused international interest,” the minister said.

According to him, the ministry has received letters from a number of private universities about their closure or merger. Besides, checks on education quality will be conducted next week.
