Armenia to assume Chairmanship of CoE Committee of Ministers

The 123rd session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe will be held in Strasbourg today. During the session, Armenia will assume for the first time Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers for a six-month period. Armenia will take over the Committee’s Chairmanship from Austria.

The chairmanship will provide Armenia with the opportunity to contribute to the strengthening of democratic processes in Europe, the correspondent of Aysor.am reports.

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian will participate in the session.

The main goals of Armenia’s chairmanship are:

- fighting racism and xenophobia, promotion of European values through a dialog of civilizations,

- promotion of human rights and the rule of law,

- strengthening democratic societies,

- enhancement of the role of the Council of Europe in European organizations.
