'Model of democratic socialism should be formed in Armenia'

“We should think about the formation of an ideological opposition because when the opposition is united around ideas and tries to implement its programs, it will make the authorities carry out serious reforms,” the leader of Democratic Party of Armenia Aram Sargsyan told the correspondent of Aysor.am, when discussing the mechanisms of overcoming the crisis in the opposition and the necessity to form a qualitatively new opposition force.

In his opinion, programs based on ideas can arouse the society’s interest in the opposition. “Political forces should speak to society by presenting concrete programs. The administrative resource, the so-called financial resource distributed for bribery of voters, has become obsolete,” he noted.

Aram Sargsyan said that the Democratic Party of Armenia will play its role in such issues and try to unite forces which are prepared to realize the Armenian model of democratic socialism in the country.

“This program includes the breaking-up of the oligarchic system, which does not mean hindrance to entrepreneurship. Quite the opposite, the program will create favorable conditions for doing business and promote small and medium enterprises,” the party leader said.

In his words, the most important thing is unification around a program, rather than under someone’s patronage.
“The existence of the opposition united round programs will also become a good bid in the next parliamentary elections,” Aram Sargsyan said.
