Adibekian: Agricultural insurance system should be introduced
An agricultural insurance system should be introduced in Armenia, Director of Sociometer sociological center Aharon Adibekian told a press conference today.
He said he has a proposal for the prime minister.
“If 300,000 farmers pay $20 a year, the state adds $6 million and that sum is transferred to an insurance company, it will become possible to rapidly compensate for a large part of agricultural losses,” Adibekian said, noting that in addition, farmers should receive seeds, equipment, pesticides, and, more importantly, they need help to sell their crops.
“I took offence at the prime minister’s remark that farmers should also sell their crops grown by the sweat of their brows. There is no such thing in the word. Crops are sold through intermediaries,” Adibekian noted.
