Military Police employee prevents suicide

“Around 3-4 p.m. yesterday I was crossing Kievian Bridge when I saw a young man who was about to jump from the bridge. A passerby seized his leg, not allowing him to jump off the bridge. It was raining hard and the man resisted with all his might, but I together with the passerby managed to prevent him from committing suicide,” Harutyun Barseghian, an employee of the Military Police, told Aysor.am.

According to Barseghian, the man was in a drunken state. He offered him a cigarette and then asked him a few questions before the police came.

The young man (his name was Gegham) said he wanted to die because he had no money. “I cannot find a job. The only option is to become a thief, but I am incapable of stealing. I want to die”.

The policemen took the 33-year-old man to a police station.

By the way, taking into account a growth in the number of such incidents in the city, the Ministry of Emergency Situations plans to install security cameras near Kievian Bridge and organize 24-hour control there to prevent suicide attempts. The ministry will also purchase a trampoline that will immediately used to save a human life, in case of an alarm call.
