S. Sahakian: Irrigation water problem in Ujan village solved

During the presentation of reports on implementation of regional administrations’ 2012 budgets in the parliament today, the deputy of HAK faction Nikol Pashinian addressed a question to Governor of Aragatsotn province Sargis Sargsyan regarding the situation around the construction of several hydropower plants on the Amberd River.

We would remind you that recently residents of Ujan village blocked Yerevan-Gyumri Highway in protest against construction of several hydropower plants on Amberd, as a result of which they were deprived of drinking and irrigation water. They said their community had serious drinking and irrigation water problems for a long time and demanded urgent action. The name of regional governor was mentioned among the names of the hydropower plants’ owners.

Sargis Sahakian said he has nothing to do with the mentioned hydropower plants and their construction. In his words, the situation arose because of water shortage now.

“We responded rapidly and solved the problem,” the governor stated.

“Farmers should be supplied with irrigation water,” he said, without explaining why the issue was solved only after Ujan residents had blocked Yerevan-Gyumri Highway.
