Serzh Sargsyan: Chairmanship of Council of Europe is great responsibility

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received today President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Jean-Claude Mignon, the presidential press service reports.

During the meeting Serzh Sargsyan underlined the importance of PACE President’s visit to Armenia, taking into consideration the fact that the visit is paid in connection with the meetings of the PACE Standing Committee and Bureau in Yerevan - the first events in the framework of Armenia’s Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. In the words of Serzh Sargsyan, Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers 12 years after the country’s accession to the Council of Europe is a great honor and responsibility to Armenia. He stated that in the past 12 years Armenia has followed quite a serious path, working actively within that organization’s framework.

The interlocutors discussed the process of Armenia’s honoring of commitments to the Council of Europe, the current reforms, priorities of Armenia’s Chairmanship the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, and the regional situation.
