Mayor: Closed Market to continue functioning as market

The Closed Market in downtown Yerevan will be renovated and continue performing its former function, no apartment building will be constructed there, the Yerevan Mayor Taron Margrarian told reporters following this inauguration today.

“This place is of historical and cultural value. The market will operate here. As for unauthorized structures in that area, such structures are already being demolished,” the mayor noted.

Speaking about the reconstruction of Republic Square in Yerevan, the mayor said an open tender has been announced, but no changes will be made against the will of citizens.

As regards the absence of the members of Hello Yerevan bloc of parties from the inauguration, Taron Margarian said: “They have such a right. Sometimes they participate in sittings of the Council of Elders, sometimes they don’t. Let’s wait until next sittings”.
