Archbishop Kjoyan denies involvement in “offshore scandal”
The Primate of Ararat Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Archbishop Church Navasard Kjoyan has refuted the media reports about his involvement in the diamond business, according to a statement issued by the Ararat Diocese.
“The archbishop already stated in connection with the so-called offshore scandal that in case of engaging in business, he would never continue serving the Armenian Apostolic Church: any secret and underground activity is contrary to his principles.
As for the fact he has not applied to the police concerning the misinformation related to his name, the archbishop says that such methods contradict his idea of a clergyman,” the statement reads.
Archbishop Kjoyan also refuted the information that he was present at a state commission’s meeting, during which the issue of developing the diamond sector was discussed.
“The archbishop appreciates the values of democratic society, but he considers abuse of freedom of speech dangerous and harmful, especially by advocates of such values. The right to freedom of speech is not an indulgence that allows discrediting people,” the statement says.
